Giant Tesla Battery Storage Explosion Causes California Fires, Again

As I wrote the other day, Tesla has a long history of lies as well as causing devastating California fires and undermining emergency response.

So too tonight, we see an explosive fire in Moss Landing, Northern California, caused by their unsafe bomb-like battery storage facility near critical infrastructure.

Tesla battery storage plant fire erupts as residents told to ‘shelter in place’

A fire has broken out at a California power plant that is home to the largest battery storage facility in the world.

Moss Landing Fire Update

Update at 8:45 PM on 1/16/25 – Due to an ongoing large fire in Moss Landing, Santa Cruz County Public Health officials are advising residents to stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed, limit outdoor exposure, and turn off ventilation systems. Monitor local news and social media for additional updates. Further information will be provided as the situation changes.

KSBW has posted this video of the fire near the iconic PG&E plant stack, provided by Carlos Leyva:

The news station is also on the scene posting live video updates about this Tesla facility having a history of serious fires and accidents. Like, as in, about two years ago 2022 headline news about unsafe Tesla operations causing fires at this same facility:

A 2022 fire highlighted a need for better fire prevention, and today… we see the same Tesla story as always. Their CEO has been allowed to totally ignore every warning and cause widespread destruction and death without accountability.

His cars explode in fire. His factories explode in fire. His warehouses explode in fire.

Teslas notoriously burn occupants to death after they suddenly “veer” uncontrollably and crash. Design defects (e.g. Pinto doors) inflate cost of rescue so high very few survive.

Deadly fires define Tesla.

Unlike any other company, Tesla constantly pulls scarce firefighters and resources away from other important fires while their CEO spews vile racist targeted attacks on our first responders and refuses to pay U.S. taxes.

“That defies common sense, but it does not defy the US tax code,” said Martin Sullivan, chief economist for Tax Analysts, a nonprofit tax publisher, and an expert on US corporate tax practices.

Sullivan said he believes the $130 million loss on [Tesla] US operations is most likely due to a common practice for US multinational corporations: structuring their operations so that overseas subsidiaries are the ones reporting income, leaving the US operation to have little or no taxable income to report.

For example, a company can assign its intellectual property to one of those foreign entities, and charge its US unit a fee for using that property. And thus, the foreign operation is very profitable, while the US company — burdened with “costs” to the company itself — reports either a loss or very little income.

That huge sucking sound has been Tesla soaking up giant state loans and resources only to cause widespread California fires, publicly attack and abuse first responders, all the while pushing as much money as possible away from the state to make it more difficult than ever to prevent and stop escalating Tesla harms.
