Ford announced their “Reflex” concept car that sports diesel-electric and solar panels. 65 mpg isn’t bad for today’s standards, but it seems to me that concept cars should be gunning for the 120mpg range with ultra-low emissions…

According to my friend Tristan, who knows more about cars than I would ever hope to, existing hybrids still don’t save you the extra cost of all the hybrid engineering by reducing fuel bills over their life span. It’s easiest to compare with the Civic hybrid, since it’s a variant of a standard engine model.
As such, maybe it makes more sense to develop more economical hybrid systems than ones that allow stellar fuel efficiencies, though possibly at the cost of more expensive hardware.
